Perspire Sauna Studio Heats Up Virginia-Highland

It’s getting hot in Virginia Highland! We’re not talking about the temps but the neighborhood’s newest resident Perspire Sauna Studios. So grab a towel, turn on some tunes, relax, breathe deep, and ignite your wellness within. It’s about to get steamy.

Perspire, located on N. Highland Ave. in the former Vernacular spot, officially opened its doors Monday, January 25, following a soft opening this weekend. What sets the sauna apart is the infrared therapy it offers in each of its 8 private suites. According to their site, infrared provides a gentle, soothing therapeutic heat (without harmful UV rays) that:

  • Detoxes the body.
  • Burns calories.
  • Relaxes the mind.
  • Enhances immunity.
  • Eases pain.
  • Clears skin.
  • Improves sleep.

Learn more about infrared therapy benefits and how it works.

“My personal favorite benefit is how much it helps me meditate,” said Sara Ashe, Area Manager at Perspire Sauna Studios. “It’s really good for mental health, peace of mind, and de-stressing. It helps you feel very grounded, centered, and present in your body.”

Infrared heat also raises your body temperature so you burn more calories at rest than you normally would. This in turn gives you a little bit of a cardio boost.

“It’s great for people like myself who have chronic pain and can’t workout the way that I used to,” Sara continued. “This is great because it helps me feel like I’m still doing something even though I can’t go run 5 miles like I used to.”

The VaHi location is the only location in Atlanta — Buckhead is currently open and Sandy Springs is set to open soon — that also offers red light therapy. This form of light therapy is may help your skin’s elasticity and boost collagen production.

What to expect

Be sure to hydrate before, during, and after your session. The infrared sauna therapy heats up your internal temperature, so you’ll be sweating out toxins (likely a lot!) Be sure to wear comfortable clothes for after your session. When you enter, a greeter will take you to your suite.

Each suite is equipped with a smart TV, so you can watch Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube to set the tone of your 40-minute session. To create the ambiance you’re looking for or enhance the mood you’re in, each of the suites offer chromotherapy bars (also known as color therapy) that allow you to change the colors of the suite.

When you’re done, there’s a towel drop — with cool eucalyptus towels — and a shower to refresh. Stop by the entrance on your way out for some merch, including branded candles and T-shirts.

Coming to VaHi

Jan Zalud, betterCap managing partner and co-founder, the private equity firm partnering with Perspire, is ecstatic to be in VaHi not only because of its known familiarity in the city, but because of the eclectic vibe and welcoming people. He’s also excited to be offering something different.

“There’s a lot of beautiful boutiques, but from a consumer service-oriented business outside of restaurants, I think that the neighborhood needs a little more optionality, especially now in a pandemic where mental health and wellbeing are at the forefront of everybody’s minds,” Jan said.

COVID-19 precautions

As a health and wellness studio, it’s important to note that Perspire is taking COVID-19 precautions seriously. Masks are required upon entry and in the public areas of the studio, and they’re using hospital grade cleaners to clean the suites after every session.

Please give Perspire a friendly welcome to the neighborhood!
