Here in Virginia Highland, we value community, fun and a great time. That’s why we’re excited to announce an event that will bring our community together through music on the porches on the gorgeous homes throughout the neighborhood.
Our inaugural Porchfest and Rock n Run 5k will take place on May 8, from 9 am to 6 pm.
To kick off the day, we’ll host a themed virtual 5k Rock n Run, from 9 to 11 am. After the race is complete, houses throughout the neighborhood will host bands on their porches for Porchfest from 12 to 6 pm. Walk from house to house and watch bands from the sound-filled sidewalks. Choose your favorite music genre and porch vibe to fit your mood. We’ll have a Food Truck Way along Barnett St with some of Atlanta’s best food trucks to satisfy your taste buds as you jam to some hearty tunes.
The event will run from N. Highland Ave to Ponce De Leon PL, between Virginia Ave and Drewry St. A number of amazing residents have already signed up to host bands on their porches, but we could use a few more. Click here to volunteer to host a band on your porch!
Bands will be of a variety of genres and compositions, from a one-man acoustic band to five-piece rock n roll bands. This will be a showcase of some of the greatest talent in the neighborhood, and we’re excited to see the community unify around rhythm and beats. For the virtual Rock n Run 5k, you can dress up like your favorite band or wear your favorite band’s T-shirt. We will provide three optional routes, or you can choose your own favorite neighborhood route. End the route at John Howell Park, where there will be Hero’s Doughnuts to replenish your body and spirit.
