Katie Max, a VaHi local resident and expressive abstract artist, who has collectors quickly growing in Virginia Highland and across the country, says she became infatuated with art when she began to find her own unique style developing her skills during her studies at The University of Georgia. According to Katie, her work evokes feelings of “comforting nostalgia” and “inviting warmth.”
The pieces in her latest collection reach for ways to marry Katie’s understanding of color psychology with the deep emotions felt through music and lyrics. Seeking to bridge the gap between melodic and visual, Katie translates moments of time where our feelings are felt but not always tangible.
The combination of active strokes captured, and gentle movement of color play creates a dichotomy between energy and rest, leading the viewer through the visual playing field. The titles of her pieces, and the details throughout, allude to some of her favorite songs, ranging from Harvest Moon by Neil Young to Yellow by Coldplay.
