The reimagined Virginia Highland Farmers Market officially opened on September 15 to a very welcoming and excited neighborhood. This milestone in our community is thanks to the hard work of dedicated residents, eager vendors, and the support of our partners and hosts at the Virginia-Highland Elementary School.

Earlier this year, a shared goal was discussed within VHDA: to reintroduce fresh, local produce and unique artisanal goods back to Virginia Highland. Led by Co-Chairs Aditya Shrivastava and Lindsay Wheeler, the Farmers Market Committee formed to make this vision a reality. Through many months of meetings, site visits, and vendor outreach, the market began to come to life.

"Reviving our farmers market was essential for our community. It has been a great way to support local businesses, foster connections, and strengthen our neighborhood. Managing it has been challenging but rewarding. I'm grateful for our partnerships, vendors, and team, who ensure the market's success,"  Lindsay Wheeler, Farmers Market Committee Co-Chair (and VHDA President and Co-Founder).

The VHDA team and committee members curated a diverse selection of top-tier farmers and vendors to create a fun market experience for everyone to return to week after week. Local businesses like San Francisco Coffee, The Green Flamingo, and Kinship Butcher & Sundry joined the lineup, benefiting from the increased foot traffic to the event.

Thoughtful updates to the market include finding a new location able to host up to 50 vendors, a fresh new brand, a uniform look for the market featuring crisp white tents with beautiful custom banners, tables for seating, and a rewarding partnership with the Trees for Tuition pumpkin patch and Christmas tree lot. The market also features live music, free yoga in the park with Highland Yoga, and an overall friendly atmosphere, making it a new popular spot for locals and families on Sundays.

The Virginia Highland Farmers Market isn’t just about fresh groceries. It’s a celebration of supporting small business, growing community, and creating a space to enjoy the best our neighborhood has to offer.
